Since the minimalism movement become a huge moment, people eventually concern about decluttering the stuff and get rid of unneeded pieces.
Declutter Service industry has grown up; people need some hands to help them manage their life. Warren Estate is one of them; I have a conversation with the founder, May Warren. We discuss how did she start the company and makes it successful until today.
What is Warren Estate? What kind of service you offer to your customers?
We provide a comprehensive Estate Liquidations Service including Auction & Appraisal Service, Estate Buy-out / Complete House & Storage Clean-outs Downsizing & Moving Sales. We have an Estate Consignment Showroom located at 3020 Clement Street to facilitate those who choose not to host the sale at their house. So basically, we help people to get rid of their unneeded items, and they also can make money from it.
Can you tell us about your background?
I moved from Thailand as a grad-student, ended up start this business, and opened a consignment store called Simply Chic in Marina district. Ten years of business was very amazing for me, I had very lovely clients, good customers but I desired to sell my store last year because I want to focus on the Warren Estate.
What is your inspiration to start this business?
As I have mentioned, create this fashion exchange community. I started from a consignment store. It is where people bring unwanted clothes, leave it with us and we sell it for them. The result was surprising, we started from a hundred consigners, and now we have over 4,000 consigners that consign with us.
Seven years later, I realized people not only try to get rid of the clothes but also some furniture and home decorations. Then I decided to start furniture consignment, used the items to decorate my store and customers were interested in buying. So it is what we continue doing until today.
How is the feedback from this business?
Minimalism was brought to the mainstream, last a few years I can easily tell that people are into decluttering. Last a few months; I have the sale every weekend, it was super busy but very productive for me.
I remember one of my clients; she has two houses in the same area. One of them only to keep her collections. She had over one hundred set of tea sets, fifty stained glass mirrors. “I need to let it go, please help me to get rid all of the stuff” it is what she said to me.

It is simple, just email or gives a call to me and we will go to your house. It takes only a week to organize the space; we will research the market for the price.
After the sale, I offer the cleaning service. You can choose to consign the item at our store or donate to charity.
